Becoming
An ongoing multimedia series exploring inner journeys through poetry, photography, and video. Created in collaboration with interdisciplinary artist Dhruv Vyas.
A lump in the throat,
Smothered with memories of an unrequited love.
Not just broken but a pulverized heart,
Which can never be picked
But blown in the air,
Scattering its charm apart.
The pretence you pull of not-caring-much,
While your heart is nothing but a frayed rug.
Woven from the tatters of lost warmth, forgotten love,
and a longing insatiable,
It might never sulk.
But this cold is a recurring reminder
of remnants of the ardors bygone.
Leaving me with an ache inside,
While out it snows.
What to make of such voids?
If only I knew.
~Nida Zehra
The sun reaches the highest point in the sky,
The garden shrinks under its heat.
As I hide under the shade of my hand,
A disturbance catches my eye.
Burning grass blades collide
and caress the dry skin,
witnessing a struggle.
Itching in my palms, as I watch it move in circles.
The murky old skin conceals the beauty within.
It needs some kind of violence to break through,
It needs some kind of violence to see the evening blue.
My fingers curl and nails dig in,
Trying to calm the itch in palm.
Will the world see its beauty?
Will it know its beauty?

Perched on my neighbour's terrace,
I witnessed a tired pigeon's plight.
Perhaps, from the tragedy of last night,
It couldn't move,
And so couldn't I.

Jagged boulder interrupts our flow,
The wind carries our sound as we crash.
Look beyond, we meet again.
Water flows smoothly above the stones,
Hovering dragonfly breaks the silence.
Look within, we meet again.
